First of
all may we welcome you to our website. Let us tell you who we are :
Berrın and Murat. We were both born in Ankara. Turkey. We met when
working in the technology market where we set up a computer company
together and, for fıve years worked intensively with both the private
and the government sector. We also successfully carried out a
considerable number of international projects.
On our first visit to Cappadocia in
2001 we made the acquaintance of some local people and started to make
frequent visits here. We became increasingly interested in the area :
its unusual topography, geological formation, its history and culture.
We bought an old village house, restored it and moved in: We got more
and more involved in the study of local customs and traditions and
gradually we felt that we should accomplish something directly related
to Cappadocia and life here.
We did a
lot of brain-storming. That led to research ,and we came up with the
idea of creating an ethnological museum which would reflect the fast-disappearing
traditions of Cappadocia.
More
research and development of the project took about a year. Then we
leased two buildings from the Municipality of Ortahisar. One was the
former Town Hall, the other adjacent one the first hotel ever built in
Cappadocia but closed for many years. Both buildings were semi-derelict.
Extensive restoration was required. It took two years and was paid for
from our own funds.
We designed
and built the Museum and acquired artefacts, also mostly out of our
own pockets although some artefacts were donated.
Not only did we open
the Museum illustrating Cappadocian traditions, but we also opened an
adjoining cafe and restaurant for people to be able to relax and enjoy
a drink or a meal. The Museum opened on the 15th September 2004 and on
the 19th Aprıl 2005 it was officially opened by the provincial
Governor Alaattin TURHAN. The openıng ceremony was one of the events
programmed as part of a week to promote tourism organised by the
Governorship of Nevşehir and the Provincial Tourist Board.
Now the Museum and the
restaurant attract many visitors both from Turkey and abroad and we
had about 10,000 visitors in 2005.
More informatıon is
available from our website which we hope you will enjoy visiting.
Thank you for logging in and
looking forward to meeting you at our Museum.
