In 1956 the first hotel was
opened in Cappadocia in an attractive stone building in the village of
Ortahisar. The hotel was later closed and the building left empty
until 2003 when it underwent considerable restoration work, and in
2004 the only ethnographic museum in Cappadocia was installed there:
The museum illustrates the traditions of the area using life-like
models to create a series of scenes of everyday activities.
The museum complex includes
another fine stone house built in 1933 for use as the local Town Hall.
That was also restored and turned into a café-restaurant serving the
traditional cuisine of Cappadocia.
The museum restaurant is able
to host various sorts of meetings. There are rooms suitable for film
and slide shows and conference facilities with a seating capacity for
up ro 250 people.
A complete service for the
organisation of such functions can be provided upon request.
